(DANVILLE, KY) – The Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) has hired Faneshia Jones as its new assistant principal. She will start Aug. 1.
Jones brings more than 20 years of education experience to the position, including at KSD. She was a program coordinator at KSD from 2001 – 2004 and served as assistant principal from 2022 – 2023.
Jones said she is excited to return to the school and continue helping students there.
“Returning to the Kentucky School for the Deaf feels like coming home,” Jones said. “This community means so much to me and I can’t wait to see all the familiar – and new – faces and dive back into the work we do here.”
Jones most recently served as assistant principal of Liberty Elementary School (Fayette County).
Jones also had been an educational recovery specialist and assistant principal of Audubon Traditional Elementary School (Jefferson County), and a middle school math teacher in the Jessamine County and Danville Independent school districts.
Jones holds a master’s degree in educational leadership from Eastern Kentucky University, where she also earned her Rank I and certifications as a school principal, instructional leadership supervisor and school superintendent. She earned her doctorate in educational leadership and organizational development from the University of Louisville.
Shannon Sparkman, director of the Division of State Schools in the Kentucky Department of Education’s Office of Special Education and Early Learning, said she is excited to welcome Jones back to KSD.
“She brings a deep respect for Deaf culture, a strong commitment to inclusive leadership and a passion for supporting students and staff,” Sparkman said. “We know Dr. Jones will continue to build trust, strengthen relationships and help move KSD forward in close collaboration with the Deaf community.”
