Grasham grew up in nearby Lincoln County and is a 1993 graduate of Lincoln County High School. He said he fell in love with Garrard County when he first started working there as a teacher.
Members of the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council voted to start a new year-long project to explore ways to make student representation more meaningful, especially where school and district decisions are being made, during their meeting on Aug. 25. The council’s year-long project to develop recommendations will be presented to Commissioner of Education Robbie Fletcher by next spring.
Katherine Berner, a library media specialist at Baker Intermediate School (Clark County), has a special focus on bringing vibrant learning experiences to students through unique projects in her classroom. Berner was recently named the 2027 Kentucky Middle School Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Department of Education.
The new superintendent of Erlanger-Elsmere Independent, Matt Engel, is bringing a renewed focus on improving student outcomes to the district and wants to encourage student participation in opportunities outside school.
Minter was appointed to the KBE by Gov. Andy Beshear on July 30 to replace Lee Todd, whose term expired. Minter’s term expires Apr. 14, 2030.

The Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD) is excited to announce Justin Padgett as its new principal. A familiar face and dedicated leader in the KSD community, Padgett has served as the school’s director of student life for the past three years and brings 18 years of experience in education to his new position.

No stranger to taking the lead, Jones has more than 50 years of combined military and educational leadership experience. He served with distinction in the United States Army from 1973 to 1993, ultimately attaining the rank of first sergeant. He then served more than three decades in public education.
