The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE), in collaboration with the Kentucky Council for Exceptional Children (KYCEC), is pleased to announce the three finalists for the 2026 Kentucky Special Education Teacher of the Year.
- Kimmie Curtis, Kentucky School for the Deaf
- Kaitlin Morris, North Warren Elementary School (Warren County)
- Allison Slone, Rowan Academy (Rowan County)
These three outstanding special education teachers will be recognized during the KYCEC Conference on Nov.23, 2026, in Louisville. During the conference, one of the three finalists will be named the 2026 Kentucky Special Education Teacher of the Year.
This year, KDE and KYCEC received nearly 200 nominations recognizing exceptional special education teachers across Kentucky. Finalists were selected through a rigorous review process conducted by representatives of both KDE and KYCEC. The process included a written questionnaire, classroom observation and staff interviews.
KDE and KYCEC congratulate all of this year’s nominees and finalists. Their dedication to supporting Kentucky’s students with disabilities helps ensure that every student has the opportunity to succeed.
