Educational materials for a range of social studies subjects are available through the National Archives.

The online tool DocsTeach offers thousands of primary sources for history lessons, including letters, photos, speeches and posters. Many documents also include customizable options to help educators fit them into their lesson plans.

For more specific events, the milestone documents webpage provides primary-source documents that teachers can access through an interactive timeline or a scroll menu. The National Archives provides worksheets to help students understand historical documents through its document analysis webpage.

Several programs also are available to help teachers bolster their curriculum. The We Rule: Civics for All of US program offers professional development workshops to teachers and student distance-learning programs and webinars, all with an emphasis on helping students make a positive difference in their communities.

The National Archives also supports the year-long National History Day competition, where students can incorporate original documents into projects about historical issues, ideas, people and events. Resources are available at the DocsTeach National History Day webpage.
