Nominations open for KBE’s Karem Award for Excellence in Education Policy

The Kentucky Board of Education is accepting nominations for the Karem Award for Excellence in Education Policy. The award, which is named for board chairman David Karem, will recognize a Kentucky policymaker, education leader or citizen who has made notable state-level contributions to the improvement of Kentucky's public education system.

Haselton receives first David Karem Award

The Kentucky Board of Education named Dr. W. Blake Haselton, superintendent-in-residence and associate clinical professor in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisville, as the first recipient of the David Karem Award during the board’s regular meeting Oct. 4 in Frankfort.

Kentucky Board of Education approves charter regulations

House Bill 520 (2017) cleared the way for the first charter schools in the state and during its regular meeting Oct. 4, the Kentucky Board of Education approved four regulations governing the establishment and operation of public charter schools.
