Nearing her one-year mark as executive director of the Governor’s Office of Early Childhood Education, Amy Neal laid out the office’s priorities during the April 29 meeting of the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Pre-school Coordinator Advisory Group (PCAG).
The Governor’s Office of Early Childhood hosted the 2019 Early Childhood Institute for hundreds of early childhood educators from across Kentucky.
Registration is open for four Nature Play Training Institutes to be held March through June at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont. The workshops will focus on the benefits of play-based learning for child development and improving outdoor play opportunities.
Educators and others are invited to the Kentucky Leads the Nation Summit on Innovations in Early Childhood, which is scheduled for Oct. 20 at the Muhammad Ali Center in Louisville.

Last month, data from the Kindergarten Readiness Screener was released showing that half of incoming kindergarten students are ready for school. The screener gives kindergarten teachers an instructional starting point for their classes.
Gov. Steve Beshear announced Wednesday that 50 percent of students who started kindergarten this school year were ready to learn and succeed. That is up from 49 percent last year.
