Be a Safety Star: Celebrate Kentucky Safe Schools Week Oct. 17-23

Kentucky Safe Schools Week, sponsored by the Kentucky Center for School Safety (KCSS), will be Oct. 17-23. This year’s theme – "Be a Safety Star" – will focus on spreading kindness, treating others with respect and abiding by safety rules and support.

Celebrate Kentucky Safe Schools Week this October

This year, Oct. 18-24 will be recognized as Kentucky Safe Schools Week. This annual event – which has recognized issues such as preventing cyberbullying, hatred and violence – has taken on a bit of a different perspective due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bringing parents to the table

The Every Student Succeeds Act – the federal law that governs K-12 public education – the phrase “parent and family engagement” is used in lieu of “parental involvement.” While that seems like a minor change, I think it is a big shift in how we think about the relationship between families and our schools.
