Shelley Badgett has been selected as the new director of special education for the Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) and the Kentucky School for the Deaf (KSD). She will begin her duties on July 1.
Summer jobs have been giving students an opportunity to gain valuable life experiences since the word “teenager” was coined. The Kentucky School for the Blind (KSB) launched its summer work program in 1994 to give blind and visually impaired students the same kind of opportunities.
April Pieper has been named director for the division of state schools at the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). Pieper, who was named to the position on Sept. 14, most recently served as education program manager in KDE’s Office of Special Education and Early Learning.
TaMyah Jordan, a residential student at the Kentucky School for the Blind, made her runway debut as a blind model for Target on the Runway of Dreams stage in Los Angeles.
Gretta Hylton, associate commissioner in the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’S) Office of Special Education and Early Learning (OSEEL), was elected as president-elect of the National Association of State Directors of Special Education (NASDSE) during its annual business meeting on Oct. 18. Hylton has served as secretary-treasurer of the NASDSE Board of Directors since 2017.
