Students on the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE’s) Commissioner’s Student Advisory Council joined Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman and Gov. Andy Beshear on May 12 at the Kentucky State Capitol for the ceremonial signing of House Bill (HB) 44, which allows local school districts’ attendance policies to include provisions for a student’s mental health or behavioral health status.
Ignite Institute’s robotics team wins 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship
The Ignite Institute’s (Boone County) robotics team – PiBotics 38141B – won the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship May 7 in Dallas, Texas. Of the 20,000 teams registered, only 818 teams from 40 countries were selected for the world competition.

KDE shares links to rights of students, national motto legislation
Pursuant to KRS 158.186, before Sept. 15 of each year the commissioner of education must distribute copies of KRS 158.183, which details the “rights of students,” and KRS 158.195, which requires each public elementary and secondary school to “display the national motto” of the United States.
