Early intervention as a child was key for Kentucky Milken Educator Award winner Buskill

With Charlotte Buskill's mother, grandmother and two sisters all educators, she felt she was destined to join the “family business.” “My whole younger childhood was filled with the love of being in a school building,” she said. Now in her sixth year as an educator, Buskill has been at Newton Parrish Elementary School (Owensboro Independent) since 2016. Her ability to ensure the success of every student was recognized by the Milken Family Foundation, which honored her as a Milken Educator Award winner in a surprise ceremony on Nov. 10 at the school.

The Kentucky Department of Education and Valvoline Inc. have selected 24 outstanding Kentucky educators as recipients of the 2022 Valvoline™ Teacher Achievement Awards (TAA). These teachers qualify to compete for the 2022 Kentucky Teacher of the Year Award, which will be announced in September.

Commissioner celebrates innovation in education; emphasizes student readiness

In the 2019 State of Education address Dec. 3, Kentucky Education Commissioner Wayne Lewis issued a call to action to the state’s education community and encouraged education leaders, educators, policymakers and families to work together to ensure each and every student is well-prepared for life and the opportunities of the 21st century economy.
