Building community through inquiry: Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

With inquiry at its core, the new Kentucky Academic Standards for Social Studies seek to empower students to think critically and to become active participants in the learning process. By incorporating inquiry-based learning, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill is encouraging students to engage in open dialogue with both the teacher and classmates in a formal setting.

The course standards documents for required social studies courses have been revised to include the newly adopted standards and are available on the Kentucky Department of Education’s (KDE) Course Standards webpage.

Reminder: Civics test required for graduation

Passed by the Kentucky General Assembly in 2017, Senate Bill 159 requires students to pass a 100-question civics test in order to graduate from a public high school with a regular diploma.
