Campbellsville University recognized 197 teachers from across Kentucky in its annual Excellence in Teaching Award Program.
In an effort to recognize the work of educators and programs that serve students with a variety of learning needs, the Kentucky Department of Education has named 10 Alternative Programs of Distinction.
The 2017 VSA Kentucky Student Traveling Exhibition, “A Matter of Perspective” – which showcases original artwork created by K-12 students with disabilities from schools throughout Kentucky – is now traveling to schools and other community venues throughout the Commonwealth.
In 1963, Jeffrey Jamner’s kindergarten teacher in New York begged his parents to get him piano lessons. The now-classically trained concert pianist said he was a “non-responsive” child who only became interested in school when his teacher played music.
Even 10 years ago, the phrase “less than a computer but more than a calculator” might have generated a collective shoulder shrug from students. But that was then, and this is now. Educator Mike Sexton envisions such devices as learning tools in the years to come.
